Emerging Leaders Program
Program Overview
Mission & Background
The Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) offers a unique opportunity for area high school students to develop foundational leadership skills, interact with local leaders, and identify and address community issues. ELP instills the value of stewardship, encourages establishing a personal network, and teaches youth to leverage resources within their own community - encouraging increased involvement and investment. The Emerging Leaders Program is an initiative of the Leadership North Fulton Board of Directors through the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce.
Class Selection
The ELP Selection Committee will choose a diverse cross section of 20-25 students from North Fulton area high schools. Applicants will be judged based on the essay, letters of recommendation, and application. All applicants must be high school juniors with a minimum 2.5 GPA. We are now accepting application for the 2010-2011 school year. The application deadline is September 10, 2010. You can download the application in the Applications Nominations section.
Curriculum
Each class day will include a leadership component from John C. Maxwell's 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. The remainder of the class day will focus on one of the following areas: personal finance, education, environment, nonprofit, government, and public safety. A local community leader will present the focus area material at each class day.
Community Investment
Participants must complete 15 volunteer hours with pre-approved, local nonprofit organizations. Hours must be verified by a staff member of the organization.
Outcome
Participants will be invited to attend a graduation ceremony with their parents where they will receive a plaque for successfully completing the program and a certificate signed by the Chairman of Leadership North Fulton and the Chairman of the Emerging Leaders Program.
